Team Networking and Revolution Racing took the 31 car to
Abingdon Airfield, Oxfordshire, to join in the "Spirit
of Adventure" RAF
show over the May Bank holiday weekend, together with 6
other cars from the MAC TOOLS V8 Trophy series.
They included:
CWS Racing the RAF and The Spirit of Adventure cars
Rob Compton, Team Air Ambulance
John Steward, Crimestoppers
Revolution Racing, cars 99, 98 and 31
Our thanks to race engineer Lee "Tractor Boy" Maddox for
completing an 8 hour marathon double trip finishing at 3.15
am on Friday.
With the absence of our race driver Duncan
Gray for the Saturday show due to a previous engagement the
owners of the car, Duncan, Jo, Sally and Ray discussed the
possibility of an alternative driver, to ensure the 31 car
could support the remaining cars on the day.
It was agreed that after the support and hard work from
our youngest race engineer, we would offer him the opportunity
to live every young boys dream, drive the car in front of
a large crowd of spectators and on live TV.
It was an offer he could not refuse and he did not let us
down, completing as many laps as all the other cars involved
on the slightly difficult runway configuration with its tight
turn at each end. Congratulations Lee, we may now have to
call your Sir Lee!!
The V8 Trophy Paddock was visited by a large number of spectators
during the day and many were very interested in seeing the
cars run at Rockingham.
Our thanks go to all involved especially, Richard Smith
the organiser of Spirit of Adventure who worked tirelessly
all week to ensure the MAC TOOLS V8 Trophy cars and their
supporters were looked after from the moment we arrived,
Duane Kidd and Revolution Racing team for their support and
copious amounts of food, drink and of course hilarious evening
entertainment, the RAF for their friendliness and help, Kevin
Borland who stepped into the 99 car at the last moment due
to Chris Robinson being unavailable, CWS Racing for lending
us a set of racing overalls for Lee, and last but certainly
not least to "Squirty" for
looking after Lee and the 31 car on the day.
All in all a great success, just a pity the bad weather
caused the cancellation of the Sunday event.
